Visa Requirements for Armenian Citizens (November 2026)

Julkar Nain · · 3 min read

Armenian citizens can visit around 65 to 70 countries and territories without a visa, with a visa on arrival or via an online application. Travel to neighbouring countries and the former Soviet space is relatively easy, while Europe, the UK and North America require visas. Here is how it works.

Eurasian Economic Union

As a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia offers its citizens easy travel to Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. In many cases, Armenians can travel within the union using an internal passport or ID card. EAEU membership also gives rights to work in member states with fewer formalities.

Neighbouring countries

  • Georgia: visa-free entry, often with just an ID card. Georgia is a key transit country for Armenians.
  • Iran: visa-free short stays.
  • Turkey: Turkey offers e-Visas to Armenians. The land border between the two countries has been closed for decades, so travel is usually by air.
  • Azerbaijan: travel is not possible for practical purposes due to the conflict between the two countries.

Schengen Area

Armenians need a Schengen visa for most European countries. The EU and Armenia have a visa facilitation agreement that reduces the fee and simplifies the process for some groups, such as students and business travellers. The EU and Armenia have also started a dialogue on visa liberalisation, which could eventually lead to visa-free travel. Check the current status before applying.

United Kingdom, US and Canada

Armenians need a Standard Visitor visa for the UK, a B1/B2 visa for the US and a Temporary Resident Visa for Canada. US interviews take place at the US Embassy in Yerevan. Strong family ties, stable employment and good travel history all help.

Asia and the Middle East

Armenians can visit some Asian countries visa-free or with e-visas, including Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. The UAE has offered visas on arrival or simple e-visa options. India offers an e-Visa.

Armenian diaspora and dual citizenship

Armenia allows dual citizenship. Many members of the diaspora hold Armenian passports alongside another nationality. When entering or leaving Armenia, use your Armenian passport. Abroad, use whichever passport offers better access. Armenian men of military age who hold Armenian citizenship should check conscription rules before visiting Armenia.

Travel tips

  • Keep your passport valid for at least six months.
  • Carry hotel bookings and return tickets when travelling visa-free.
  • Apply early for Schengen and US visas.
  • Check the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travelling.

How to check the rules yourself

Entry rules connected to Armenian Citizens can change with little notice, and third-party websites are often months out of date. The most reliable approach is to check three sources in order: the official immigration or visa portal of the country you are visiting, the website of its embassy or consulate in your country of residence, and your airline's travel document checker, which uses the same database airport staff rely on at check-in. If the three disagree, follow the strictest one and contact the embassy directly. Do this two to three weeks before departure, then once more a few days before you fly.

Final word

Armenian citizens can travel easily within the region and to a growing list of countries. Confirm the current rules with official sources before booking.
